What Happened to Morrison Outdoors After Shark Tank.
In 2024, Tavis Malcolm walked into Shark Tank with a big solution for camping families: safe sleeping bags made just for babies and toddlers. The idea started when Tavis took his own son camping and couldn't find a safe way to keep him warm, resorting to wrapping him like a little burrito. Recognizing a great business opportunity, he used $3,000 of his family savings to launch Morrison Outdoors.
On the show, Tavis sought a $300,000 investment for 10% of his business. He explained that each high-quality sleeping bag has a manufacturing cost between $22 and $52, while the retail price ranges from $85 to $200. The Sharks were impressed by his lifetime sale total of over $4.3 million. While some Sharks passed, Barbara Corcoran and Mark Cuban teamed up to offer $300,000 for 20% equity, which Tavis accepted.
Although the deal ultimately did not close after due diligence, the Shark Tank effect was powerful. Customers rushed to purchase the gear online. Today, the company successfully sells gear for the whole family in over 80 retail stores like REI, boasts an estimated net worth of around $4 million, and continues to help families safely explore the great outdoors.
