What Happened to Windcatcher After Shark Tank.
On Shark Tank Season 7, Ryan Frayne asked for a $200,000 investment in exchange for 8% equity in his company, Windcatcher.
His product was the Windcatcher Air Pad, a camping air mattress that inflates in seconds without a pump or electricity. The secret was a special valve system. When a user blows into it, it pulls in extra air from around, making each breath much stronger. This makes the air mattress inflate and deflate very fast. It is also easy to fold, carry, and store, which makes it great for camping and outdoor travel.
Ryan’s business was already making sales before the show. His air pad sold for about $99.95, and each sale had a strong profit margin.
On Shark Tank, the Sharks were shocked by how fast the product worked. This led to a big investment battle.
Lori Greiner finally stepped in with a strong offer: $200,000 investment for 5% equity in the business, plus a line of credit. After thinking, Ryan accepted her deal.
But the business story changed after the show. The deal with Lori never officially closed because of a legal fight over similar products. A competitor claimed Windcatcher’s technology was too close to theirs. Even though Ryan later won patent rights, the legal costs hurt the business and reduced sales and profits.
Sadly, Ryan Frayne later faced a bigger challenge in life. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and passed away in 2018.
After his death, his wife and friends tried to keep the business alive and even launched a new product campaign, but it did not get enough purchases or funding from customers. By 2022, the company website was no longer active, and Windcatcher business stopped operating.
