In 2011, Kim Nelson walked onto Shark Tank with a delicious business: homemade mail-order cakes. She used precious family recipes passed down for generations. Kim was seeking a $50,000 investment in exchange for 25% of her company, Daisy Cakes.
While most Sharks worried the small-town bakery would be too difficult to grow, Barbara Corcoran saw huge potential. She loved the cakes and offered the $50,000 investment, adding a $1 royalty per cake purchase until she was repaid.
After the episode aired, the "Shark Tank effect" took off! Orders flooded in, and monthly revenue jumped to $100,000. Even though a bad supplier once caused a costly $165,000 loss, Daisy Cakes recovered quickly. The brand eventually generated over $11 million in lifetime sales, making it an incredible success story. In 2024, Kim made the personal choice to sell the company to a longtime employee. Today, customers can purchase these famous desserts online for a current price of around $70 to $80 per cake, and Daisy Cakes is still baking up sweet profits!
