An AI just took on the best quantum circuits humans have ever published.

If you only read the headlines, you've probably got the story wrong.

In October 2026, Anthropic and a team of Harvard physicists released a paper in which Claude Mythos 5 was given eight quantum circuit problems described only in plain English. A separate program checked and scored each design, and the results were compared against the best existing circuits, on tasks from chemistry to the math behind elliptic-curve cryptography. Current quantum computers are small and fragile, so every qubit and operation a circuit saves could bring useful quantum computing closer.
