In this week's renovation vlog, I'm tackling more projects on the detached garage gym conversion at our oceanfront fixer-upper.
After moving a window and reframing an exterior wall, I explain why I chose to strip one wall all the way back to the studs instead of working with the existing tongue-and-groove sheathing. There are often multiple ways to approach a renovation, and I walk through the reasoning behind the decisions I make on this project.
I also patch old openings, remove the old electrical mast from the roof, and discover that a job I thought would take a few minutes turns into a much bigger project than expected. If you've ever renovated an older home, you know exactly how that goes.
To finish things off, I tackle an emergency roof repair the night before leaving for a speaking engagement in Ontario. With rain potentially on the way, I couldn't leave a hole in the roof for five days, so it's all hands on deck to get a temporary weatherproof patch in place before heading to the airport.
