I think food freedom is often misunderstood.
Food freedom doesn’t mean that I carefully consider the nutritional value of every meal. Nor that I never consider nutrition at all.
Sometimes I eat something because I’m hungry and it's just quick and easy.
Sometimes I eat something because I’m craving it.
And other times it's because it's what's available, it's what others are having, it's what needs using, or I know I won't have much time later.
There's so many valid reasons. But the biggest thing is: this happens subconsciously. These reasons and decisions are no longer an internal debate attached to moral judgements.
That’s actually one of the biggest differences I notice between how I eat now and how I ate when I was struggling with my eating disorder.
Back then, food choices were heavily driven by rules.
