OpenAI just opened ChatGPT ads to every US advertiser with no minimum spend, and the whole thing works differently than Google or Facebook. You do not target keywords, you target context hints, which are plain English descriptions of the conversation your buyer is having. In this walkthrough I cover the full setup end to end: creating the account and API key, installing real conversion tracking (the pixel, the client events, and the server side Conversions API that ad blockers cannot stop), and building the campaign itself.

Here is the part most tutorials miss. I build the entire campaign by describing it to Claude Code, and it stages everything paused so nothing goes live by accident. I also show the one gotcha that will cost you money: the API only bills CPM on a lifetime budget right now, while the dashboard gives you cost per click and daily budgets, so I show exactly which to use and when.
