RV owners, how many of you have actually checked your shore power inlet lately?
One of the most common electrical failures I see on RVs isn’t the converter, inverter, or even the air conditioner. It’s the shore power connection where all of your campground power enters the RV.
Every time you’re running air conditioners, electric water heaters, space heaters, microwaves, battery chargers, and everything else in the coach, that power is flowing through a single connection point. If that connection becomes loose, resistance creates heat. Heat creates more resistance. And before long, you’re looking at a melted plug, damaged wiring, or a costly repair.
This is why I’m such a big fan of SmartPlug Systems. It isn’t just another RV plug. It’s a completely different connection design that provides more contact area, a more secure connection, and eliminates many of the issues that cause traditional twist-lock shore power connections to fail.
Before anyone asks, I am not sponsored by SmartPlug, affiliated with SmartPlug, compensated by SmartPlug, or receiving anything from SmartPlug for talking about them. They don’t even know who I am. I recommend it because after seeing countless melted shore power connections over the years, I genuinely believe it’s the best solution currently available.
Is it more expensive? Absolutely.
Is your RV’s primary power connection the place to save a few dollars? Probably not.
