Jamall Emmers landed a clean right hand on Lerryan Douglas at UFC Sacramento, reportedly causing an orbital fracture and immediate vision loss.

That makes this a perfect opportunity to break down what can actually happen to the eye after blunt trauma — from orbital fractures and muscle entrapment to optic nerve injury and dangerous bleeding behind the eye.

Respect to both fighters, and wishing Douglas a full recovery.
