WHERE I FOUND MY CREW, AND WHAT I CHECKED BEFORE THEY EVER DROVE THE TRUCK

️⃣ Craigslist, jobs section. $45 a post, good for about 3–7 days, and the replies slow down the longer it's up. I'd get 10–30 replies per ad.

️⃣ ZipRecruiter or Indeed. ZipRecruiter was about $16 a day and I could stop it any time. Indeed is where you get the highest-quality people — and it's the most expensive.

️⃣ What I asked every time: can you be here at 6am, do you have a vehicle, are you okay with long days and weekends, when can you start, and are you good with customers.

️⃣ Tell them the truth about the job. It's labor, and they'll talk to customers. It's not as hard as moving, there's a break driving between jobs, and they keep anything they find. One of my guys found $4,000 in silver coins.

️⃣ The driving record decides who drives. A recent wreck or a recent DUI throws your insurance up. Drivers are responsible for the truck, and they usually end up being the leader.

️⃣ Run a background check. A basic one was about $25, a full one about $70. When I added drug testing in LA, I got way fewer responses — know that before you decide.

️⃣ Protect the truck before you hand over the keys. A GPS tracker on it, full coverage, and every driver added to your insurance policy.
