YouTube Shorts monetization has a major update in 2026, and if you’re creating Shorts or planning to monetize your YouTube channel, you need to understand what is changing.

In this video, I’m breaking down the latest YouTube Shorts monetization update, what YouTube is saying about engaged views, qualified views, Shorts revenue sharing, and the new eligibility requirements, and what these changes could mean for creators.

I also tested and reviewed multiple YouTube Shorts and their earnings so you can see what Shorts can actually pay and why the number of views you see on a Short isn’t necessarily the same thing as the views used for monetization.

I’ll be sharing real examples and breaking down:

✅ The latest YouTube Shorts monetization update
✅ What engaged views actually mean
✅ The difference between views, engaged views and qualified views
✅ How YouTube Shorts revenue sharing works
✅ How much my Shorts actually earned
✅ What can affect Shorts earnings
✅ The new Shorts monetization requirements announced by YouTube
✅ What creators should know before February 2027
✅ Whether YouTube Shorts are still worth creating
✅ Important mistakes creators should avoid when trying to monetize Shorts

YouTube has announced that starting February 1, 2027, creators will need 10 million qualified Shorts views in the previous 90 days to be eligible for Shorts ad and subscription revenue sharing. YouTube also says creators below that threshold remain in the YouTube Partner Program and can continue earning from long-form content, with Shorts revenue sharing resuming when they meet the requirement again.

And there’s another important change creators need to understand: YouTube says that from August 24, 2026, views are counted when a video starts playing across formats, but YPP earnings and eligibility continue to use engaged views and qualified views where applicable.

So if you’ve been confused about:

“Why does my Short have so many views but earn so little?”

“What are engaged views?”

“How much does YouTube actually pay for Shorts?”

“What is changing with Shorts monetization?”

This video is for you.

I hope this breakdown helps you understand the numbers better and make smarter decisions with your YouTube content.

If you’re a small YouTuber trying to grow, monetize, or make money from YouTube, subscribe to the channel because I’ll be sharing more of my real YouTube journey, experiments, earnings, lessons and creator experiences.

❤️ Thank you for being here, especially after my little break. I’m happy to be creating again.
