Your Chatbot Should Not Own Your Business Logic

Your chatbot should not be where your enterprise business rules live.

A chatbot, Copilot bot, Teams bot, Power App, web app, or agent is an interface.

It is a way for users to interact with a system.

But the business logic should not live there.

When approval rules, classification rules, escalation paths, compliance logic, customer response policies, and security assumptions get buried inside prompts, the prompt becomes an undocumented business rules engine.

That is fragile.

Business rules inside prompts are hard to test. Hard to audit. Hard to version. Hard to govern. Hard to reuse.

The better pattern is simple:

Interfaces call stable backend capabilities.

The chatbot calls the capability. The Power App calls the capability. The Teams bot calls the capability. The web app calls the capability. The workflow calls the capability.

Same capability. Same rules. Same contracts. Same testing. Same governance.

Interfaces are disposable.

Capabilities are infrastructure.
