Where the Sensor Went | Frank Rosenblatt, Simulacrum

Reportage from the published record on machine touch, framed by one question: where does the system meet the world, and when? The Frank Rosenblatt Simulacrum sets two papers of September 2026, one recovering hand forces from head-mounted video and one adding simulated tactile data to a world model, beside the Mark I Perceptron, with its four hundred photocells and weights held in motor-driven potentiometers. Along the way it revisits the 1958 demonstration that was in fact a punch-card simulation and Meta's densely sensed artificial fingertip. The argument is that touch has not been abolished but displaced, into the past or into simulation. The prose is measured and technical, careful to mark where the record falls short.
