Have you found that you are constantly clicking back and forth between your NotebookLM source sidebar and your artifact generation window just to change context?
Google dropped a source selector inside the artifact customization menu. It lets you override your global selections on the fly. But there is a catch → I tested this update across multiple account tiers, and only saw it on my Pro account.
The Artifact Segmentation Blueprint
- Isolate Your Sources: Load your notebook with all relevant sources.
- Access Customization: Open your desired artifact type and expand the customization window to reveal the new source checklist.
- Deselect and Refine: Uncheck the macro list to pinpoint only the specific data points needed for that individual asset type.
- Batch with Variety: Generate a targeted mind map from three documents, then instantly jump to an infographic using a completely different set of sources without touching the main sidebar.
A few thoughts:
- This feature is currently only fully active on Pro accounts, sorry, Free and Plus tier account users.
- The source picker shows up on infographics, flashcards, mind maps, quizzes, and even slide decks. But if you try to run a Report, you are stuck with the old, clunky global sidebar method.
