After having my 4WD broken into out the front of my house, I realised very quickly how painful the insurance and police process can be when you don’t have clear surveillance footage.

So when Reolink reached out not long after, the timing was almost perfect.

In this video, I install and review the Reolink Atlas PT Ultra, a completely wire-free 4K pan and tilt security camera paired with the Reolink 6W Solar Panel. This setup really appealed to me because I wanted something simple, reliable and easy to install, without running cables through the house and without locking myself into an ongoing monthly subscription.

The main reason I wanted to test this camera was to keep an eye on my Pajero, which often sits out the front with the rooftop tent, awning and a lot of 4WD and camping gear inside. But after using it, I can see this being useful for far more than just watching the car. It’s also great for monitoring parcel deliveries, keeping an eye on the front door, watching side access around the house and giving peace of mind when travelling or away from home.

In this review I take you through the full process, including unboxing, installation, solar panel setup, app connection, settings, AI detection, live viewing, playback, two-way audio, alarm function, night footage and my honest thoughts after using the system for a couple of months.

What impressed me most was how easy it was to set up. I had never used the camera or app before filming the setup section, so what you see in the video is my genuine first experience. The Reolink app connected quickly, the menus were intuitive and the camera was up and running without any complicated wiring or technical headaches.

The Atlas PT Ultra records in 4K Ultra HD at 3840 x 2160, has 355° horizontal pan and 90° vertical tilt, AI detection for people, vehicles and animals, two-way audio, local microSD card recording, weather resistance and a large 20,000mAh battery. Combined with the 6W solar panel, the battery has stayed at 100% for me during testing so far.

I also really like that the footage can be stored locally on a microSD card, which means you don’t have to pay for a subscription if you don’t want to. You still have the option of cloud storage if needed, but for me, local storage is a big advantage.

In the video, I also show real-world examples of the camera tracking movement around the front of my house, including people walking past, deliveries, animals, night footage and playback through the Reolink app. The auto tracking worked really well, especially for covering the driveway, front door and side access.

For anyone who travels, owns a 4WD, has camping gear, receives regular deliveries or simply wants better home security without a hardwired system, this camera is definitely worth a look.

I’m also planning future follow-up videos to test long-term performance, battery life without the solar panel, and possibly how this type of setup could work around a campsite when you’re away hiking or 4WDing.
