Learn essential oil painting techniques in this complete step-by-step instructional lesson as Jerry Yarnell teaches beginners how to paint a beautiful country road landscape using wet-on-wet oil painting techniques. Throughout this full-length lesson, Jerry explains color mixing, underpainting, brush techniques, scumbling, feathering, perspective, reflections, and how to avoid muddy colors while creating a peaceful autumn countryside featuring a rustic farmhouse, winding road, puddles, colorful trees, grasses, and fence posts.

Jerry demonstrates this lesson using water mixable oil paints after developing allergies to traditional oil painting solvents and mediums. These water mixable oils provide virtually the same rich color, blending, and working characteristics as traditional oil paints, while allowing brushes and palettes to be cleaned with simple soap and water instead of harsh solvents.

One of the strengths of this lesson is that Jerry doesn't simply show you what to paint—he explains why each technique works. You'll learn proper brush handling, paint consistency, palette knife techniques, value relationships, atmospheric perspective, and how to build a landscape from dark underpainting to bright highlights using professional methods that every oil painter should know.
