Is Seiko replacing the NH35? I went and investigated the rumours myself instead of repeating what's floating around online — and the real timeline tells a different story than most people expect.

The NH35 turns 15 this year, and Seiko's last two workhorse movements didn't make it much past that age before getting replaced. In this video, I check the real production timelines of the 6309 (1976–1988, ~12 years), the 7S26 (1996–~2020, closer to 24 years — not the 15 you'll see quoted everywhere), and where the NH35/4R35 actually sits today. I also cover Seiko's "modular evolution" approach (NH34 GMT, NH38 no-date, skeleton variants), and a supply chain story most of the watch world hasn't connected yet: LVMH's November 2025 investment in La Joux-Perret (owned by Citizen, who also owns Miyota), and how that thread runs straight to a new Chinese movement, the SL1632, already shipping in microbrand watches.

I haven't tested the SL1632 myself — so I'm not calling it better or worse than the NH35. What I can tell you is it's real, it's shipping, and it's priced right in NH35 territory.
