Inverter that doesn't waste power when you don't need it — here's how I did it

Most inverters never truly "turn off" — they sit there 24/7, spinning fans and burning watts even when the battery is full and the grid is up. I didn't want that.

In this video I show my custom backup power setup for an apartment — no solar panels, no complex controllers, no expensive add-ons. Just a smart wiring logic built from a handful of cheap components: an ATS, a time relay, an intermediate relay, and a converted RCD used as a shunt trip breaker.

The result: one manual action to start backup when needed — and fully automatic shutdown with zero consumption after the battery is recharged.

✅ One manual action to start backup when grid goes down
✅ Automatic switchback when grid returns
✅ Auto battery recharge via timer (QT-1)
✅ Auto full shutdown after charging — inverter OFF, zero noise, zero consumption
✅ Battery stays charged and ready, without discharging

⚡ Total system cost: ~1,172 EUR
