I-84 McCord Creek Bridge Construction Will Mean Continued Delays Throughout Summer Travel Season

An update on a construction project in the Gorge, if you’ve got travel plans on i-84 this summer, expect delays.
ODOT says the McCord Creek Bridge replacement project is now about half complete, but some of the biggest traffic impacts are happening right now. Both directions of i-84 have been reduced to a single lane as eastbound traffic shares the westbound bridge while crews rebuild the eastbound span. That traffic configuration is expected to remain in place through late summer.
Viewer video from this weekend showed long backups in both directions — a reminder that travel times through the gorge could increase as summer tourism picks up.
Drivers should also know the ne frontage road on-ramp to eastbound i-84 at the Elowah falls trailhead remains closed. If you're using the frontage road, you'll need to detour to the Ainsworth State Park on-ramp at exit 35.
ODOT says to plan extra time, watch for sudden slowdowns, and use zipper merging where lanes narrow. Construction is expected to continue through fall of this year.
