This video explains how Extract works in LandingAI's Agentic Document Extraction (ADE): you define a JSON schema of the fields you want, and Extract returns clean, typed JSON that matches it.

Because raw documents aren't computable, Extract runs after Parse. Parse reads the whole document into clean, structured Markdown, then Extract goes through that text to pull the values your schema asks for — for example, an invoice_number as a string and a total_amount as a number.

The workflow is simple: Parse first, define your schema, then Extract. Your schema names the fields you want, Extract returns JSON matching that schema, and every value includes bounding box references linking it back to its source on the page — so each result is traceable and verifiable at a glance.

The result is exactly the data you asked for — invoice numbers, totals, line items — structured, typed, and ready to drop into a database or workflow, with no templates or model training required.
