Can a handheld radio really reach out 23 miles? I am testing the limits of my GMRS radio setup to see if it can hit a repeater.

I am using the AR 5RM mounted in my vehicle with an external antenna to see if this configuration can maintain a solid connection over distance. The screen clearly shows I am locked onto a repeater frequency, which helps give me a better idea of how this gear performs in the real world.

Understanding your repeater range is critical if you want to use these radios for communication beyond short distances. This test shows that with the right antenna, these compact units can do much more than just local talk. It is a good way to see what your equipment is capable of when things are set up correctly.
