DJI Pocket 4P Has a SERIOUS Timelapse Problem

Description

The DJI Pocket 4 Pro has a timelapse problem I absolutely did not expect.

I put the Pocket 4 Pro beside the Pocket 3 and GoPro Mission 1 Pro for a sunset timelapse, and everything looked great... until the sun went down.

In automatic timelapse mode, the Pocket 4 Pro will only slow its shutter to about 4 seconds. That might sound like plenty, but for sunrise, sunset and day-to-night “Holy Grail” timelapses, it isn’t. Once the light disappears, the Pocket 4 Pro starts falling apart while the Pocket 3 and Mission 1 Pro can keep their shutters open dramatically longer and continue pulling in light.

The Pocket 3 can reach around 30 seconds with the right ISO settings, and the Mission 1 Pro can do essentially the same thing. Meanwhile, pushing the Pocket 4 Pro to extremely high ISO just gives you a brighter image at the expense of image quality.

For me, that’s a huge problem because sunset, sunrise and night transitions are some of my favourite timelapses to shoot.

The good news? This certainly looks like something DJI could address through firmware. So for now, my solution is simple: wait and hope DJI fixes it.

There is plenty I already like about the Pocket 4 Pro, especially its ridiculous battery life, but until this is fixed, my Pocket 3 isn’t going anywhere.
