DIPEPTIDES Lesson - Mark Scheme Specific
Dipeptides are formed by the joining of two amino acids by a condensation reaction.
A water molecule is eliminated, taking the OH from the carboxyl group of one of the amino acids, and an H from the amine group of the other amino acid.
This condensation reaction forms a peptide bond between two amino acids.
Polypeptides are formed by many condensation reactions between many amino acids.
Proteins can be made up of one or more polypeptides.
