Big Tech has found a legal way to make trillions of dollars in AI debt look like someone else's problem.

Meta's Hyperion data center cost $27 billion, and none of it shows up on Meta's balance sheet. The Zuck's total off-the-books obligations come to roughly $420 billion, nearly triple what it reports. And this isn't the end. Because across the AI industry, about $1.65 trillion in debt sits off the books, more than the $1.35 trillion that's visible, and it has grown eightfold in four years.

If the AI boom stalls, pension funds and insurers are the ones holding the bag, not the CEOs.
