The best travel credit cards for 2026 are not automatically the cards with the biggest annual fees or the longest list of benefits.

In this video, I rank eight popular travel credit cards from worst to best based on how useful the rewards actually are, how easy the credits are to use, how strong the travel benefits are, and how much value is left after paying the annual fee.

The travel credit cards ranked in this video include:

American Express Platinum
Citi Strata Elite
Bilt Blue
Citi Strata Premier
Bilt Obsidian
Chase Sapphire Preferred
Chase Sapphire Reserve
Capital One Venture X

This is not simply a ranking of which card has the most benefits.

A premium travel credit card can advertise thousands of dollars in potential value, but that does not mean you will actually receive that much value.

The real question is how many of those benefits fit spending and travel you were already going to do.

The Amex Platinum is a perfect example.

The card offers premium travel benefits, strong airport lounge access, and valuable hotel credits, but its $895 annual fee makes it difficult to justify for someone who only travels occasionally. It can be an excellent travel card for the right person, but it is not automatically the best travel credit card simply because it has premium benefits.

The Citi Strata Elite takes a similar approach with high earning rates, airport lounge benefits, hotel credits, and other travel perks. But many of those benefits require specific spending habits or bookings through Citi Travel, which can make the card more complicated to maximize.

On the lower-fee side, cards like the Citi Strata Premier and Chase Sapphire Preferred offer a much simpler way to earn transferable travel points.

The Citi Strata Premier has a $95 annual fee and earns bonus points across categories including air travel, hotels, restaurants, supermarkets, gas stations, and EV charging. It also gives cardholders access to Citi ThankYou transfer partners.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred remains one of the strongest beginner travel credit cards because of its $95 annual fee, broad bonus categories, Chase Ultimate Rewards ecosystem, travel benefits, and transfer partners. The video also covers important 2026 changes that affect the card’s value.

Bilt also earns two spots in the ranking.

The Bilt Blue Card has no annual fee and can reward eligible housing payments, making it especially interesting for renters who want to earn travel rewards without paying a premium annual fee.

The Bilt Obsidian adds stronger travel and food earning potential while keeping the annual fee at $95. Its ability to potentially earn rewards connected to rent or mortgage payments gives it a feature that most traditional travel credit cards cannot easily replicate.

For frequent travelers, the Chase Sapphire Reserve offers a more premium experience.

The card has a $795 annual fee but includes a flexible $300 annual travel credit, strong earning rates on travel and dining, Chase Sapphire Lounge access, Priority Pass access, and additional premium travel benefits. It can make sense for someone who travels frequently enough to use those benefits naturally.

At the top of the ranking is the Capital One Venture X.

The Venture X combines a $395 annual fee with a $300 Capital One Travel credit, 10,000 anniversary miles beginning after the first anniversary, 2X miles on everyday purchases, airport lounge access, and transfer partners. The reason it ranks so highly is not because it has the most benefits, but because its core value is relatively simple to understand and use.

The most important takeaway is that there is no single travel credit card that is best for everyone.

A card offering $1,000 in benefits you never use can be worth less to you than a card offering $300 in benefits you use every year.

The best travel credit card is the one that fits the way you already spend and travel.
