Most scan tool makers now add AI to their tools, but it is usually just a chatbot that answers generic questions. Here is a way to use AI that actually helps you find the fault.
My €300 Renault Laguna had no power. That symptom can come from tens or even hundreds of parts. Instead of replacing parts one by one based on fault codes, I recorded a 20 minute drive log with fuel, air, EGR and boost pressure data, exported it as a CSV and gave it to AI.
The AI ruled out the fuel system and many other causes and flagged the EGR valve. I blanked the EGR with a small piece of metal and the car drives a lot better. A second log shows the actual boost now follows the target boost.
What you need:
1. A scan tool that can record live data and export it as a CSV file
2. A drive log of about 20 minutes with the important engine values
3. AI to analyze the log and point you to the most likely cause
I use the Thinkscan 689BT for this because it saves the CSV and sends it straight to email, so you can do everything from your phone. Many other scan tools cannot make a CSV at all, or you have to move the file to a laptop with a cable first.
