‘Surgical Strike’ on Coaching Mafia: PM Modi Announces Free Online Classes for Competitive Exams

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has highlighted the growing financial strain that private coaching classes place on middle-class and poorer families across India. He noted that many parents feel compelled to enrol their children in these expensive programmes simply to maintain a sense of social prestige, resulting in the outflow of thousands of crores of rupees every year.

To ease this burden, the government has decided to launch free online coaching for a wide range of competitive examinations. Drawing on the country’s robust digital public infrastructure and the expertise of talented teachers, a nationwide network will be created to deliver high-quality coaching to young aspirants without any cost.
